Nadia Lloyd
Â鶹ÊÓƵ-based artist Nadia Lloyd started sewing face masks out of repurposed cushion covers in 2020.1 Lloyd has a self-described obsession with the Â鶹ÊÓƵ skyline, which features prominently in her work, including on this Â鶹ÊÓƵ Pride mask, which was seen on the face of Â鶹ÊÓƵ Mayor, John Tory.2
Lloyd co-designed this Black Lives Matter (BLM) Â鶹ÊÓƵ mask with her son in the summer of 2020, following the murder of George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis, Minnesota.3 The mask was meant to engage people in conversation and raise awareness to create change. Lloyd donated $5 from the sale of every BLM Â鶹ÊÓƵ mask to the Â鶹ÊÓƵ chapter of the Black Lives Matter foundation.4 The mask gained national attention when it was seen on Â鶹ÊÓƵ Raptors coach Nick Nurse, and players of the NBA team.
