Â鶹ÊÓƵ

Join Us

We are always looking for driven people to join our team, and we welcome inquiries from prospective graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and current Â鶹ÊÓƵ undergraduate students. The sections below explain how to get in touch for each role. To learn about our lab culture and expectations, see Working at the ARCS Lab. All lab members are expected to follow our Code of Conduct.

Contact: Sven Lilge (sven.lilge@torontomu.ca)

Please use the subject line "[Position type] – Your Name" (e.g., "[Prospective PhD] – Jane Doe"). Due to the volume of inquiries, we may not be able to respond to every message.

Graduate Students

You can join the ARCS Lab as an MSc or PhD student by applying through the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Department of Computer Science.

Prior experience in robotics (e.g., coursework, projects, or research) is required. Before applying, you are welcome to contact Sven Lilge to discuss research alignment. Please include your CV, a brief statement of research interests, and your unofficial transcript.

Funded positions are currently available only for domestic students (Canadian citizens and permanent residents). International applicants who hold external funding, or who are strong candidates for major scholarships, are encouraged to reach out. We are happy to support applications where there is a strong mutual fit.

Undergraduate Students

Current Â鶹ÊÓƵ undergraduate students can get involved in several ways:

  • Paid Research Assistant (RA) positions, full-time or part-time, as funding allows
  • Volunteer research positions
  • An Undergraduate Thesis (CPS 40A/B), a two-term, two-credit course (Computer Science students only)

For summer research, we host exceptional students through competitive awards such as the NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA) and the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Undergraduate Research Opportunities (URO) program. If you'd like to apply for one of these awards with Sven Lilge as your supervisor, please check the eligibility criteria and deadlines carefully, and reach out well before the application is due.

To apply, email Sven Lilge with your CV, your unofficial transcript, and a short paragraph explaining:

  1. Which research area or project you'd like to contribute to, and how it connects to ARCS Lab research.
  2. Why these topics interest you, including any relevant background or skills.

Postdoctoral Fellows

We currently have no open funded postdoctoral positions, though this may change. If you hold an external fellowship or plan to apply for one, we would be excited to host you. Explore Â鶹ÊÓƵ Postdoctoral Funding Opportunities and reach out with your CV and a brief research proposal outline to discuss proposal support.
